Tree of Life Nursery Seed Mixes
Seed Mixes
Tree of Life Nursery is proud to present our selection of nine specific seed mixes for use in California gardens. The seeds and the blends and of the highest quality anywhere, thanks to our exclusive agreement with S&S Seeds. There are no exotic (non-native) species, no cheap fillers, and no so-called "wildflowers" (in other inferior mixes these are usually species native to the American prairie states). All species in all our mixes are California natives.
A seed mix is more than just a combination of seeds. Each mix has been carefully formulated in regards to the proportions of each species in the mix. This requires special attention to germination rates, seed weight, size and shape of each plant at maturity, flowering season (start and finish), flower color, coverage based on recommended rates, and cost.

California Native Plant Week
April 17-24, 2011 is California Native Plant Week.
The California State Assembly and Senate have approved Resolution ACR 173 (Evans) establishing California Native Plant Week, beginning April 17-23, 2011. This measure proclaims the 3rd week of April, each year, as California Native Plant Week and encourages community groups, schools, and citizens to undertake appropriate activities to promote the conservation, restoration, and appreciation of California's native plants.
We will have special events daily here at the nursery in celebration of this inaugural week! Beginning Saturday April 16th with the Grand Opening of our new Butterfly Garden and kick-off celebration and continuing all week with "Coffee Breaks with Native Plants", "Native Plant Luncheons", "Wildflower Walks on the Richard and Donna O’Neill Land Conservancy", and "10% Discount on All Books", Monday - Saturday April 18-23.
More details to be announced soon, stay informed via our website, Facebook, our event calendar and we’ll send more email too...
Get Information about Native Plants at TOLN
"Information, please."
Growing and selling the best native plants is not all we do. At Tree of Life Nursery we love providing the best information on native plants and all things California. We are proud to announce our new dedicated area on the website, just for workshops. However, there are four ways to find rich material about native plants at Tree of Life Nursery.
1) Our website. Click around for a while. There’s probably stuff in here that would surprise even the most expert native plant enthusiast. Let us know how we could do better.
2) Our telephone. Pennsylvania 6-5000? Beechwood 4-5789? Nope. Long Distance Information Get Me Memphis Tennessee? Nope. 634-5789? Nope again. It’s simple - (949)728-0685. Call us anytime. We are delighted to answer your questions.
3) Our unique bookstore, Casa ‘La Paz’. We carry over 400 titles ranging in the fields of botany, horticultural, design and architecture, hiking and outdoor life, native California tribes, missions, water, ecology, wildlife, literature, and even a very complete kid’s section. Come select the books you need for your library, or just feel free to browse. Like Mike always says sometimes, "Books is knowledge."
4) Our (your) workshops. Over the years, our free, outdoor seminars have become so popular that we are currently looking for a line on additional (used, old fashioned metal, please) folding chairs. The workshops are held on most Saturdays starting at 9:00 or 10:00 AM and run approximately 1 hour. Check our website under http://www.californianativeplants.com/index.php/resources/workshops for up-to-date information.
