New Sage Advice: Nature In Miniature - Attractive Container Gardens - Native Plants
How could you expect to see nature in miniature? You can’t stick her in a box nor define her with set boundaries. Nature is big. The great landscape paintings and famous nature photographs even fall short, limited by their frames. That’s why we need an imagination.
Can you get a whole ecosystem to fit on your patio? You can if you use your imagination and a little creativity.
To learn more join us for our “Native Plants for Containers” talk, and create your own “Nature in Miniature” to take home March 31, 2007. Details here.

Useful Restoration Guide for Professionals
Anyone who has tried their hand at land restoration knows at least two things: every situation is very unique, and experience is key. Recently, twenty years of experience have become available as a resource. The California Geological Survey has published SP123 “Rehabilitation of Disturbed Lands in California: A Manual for Decision Making”.
“Rehabilitation of Disturbed Lands in California” represents the compilation of information on vegetation, rehabilitation and restoration that has become available over the last twenty years. This manual focuses on moderately to severely disturbed lands, such as those commonly associated with mining. The information in this manual should also provide planners and practitioners of less disturbed areas with a guide for designing projects in a wide variety of other situations where rehabilitation is needed. Included is 112-page appendix containing information on plant species commonly used in rehabilitation by geographic sub-regions.
SP123 can either be downloaded for free from http://www.consrv.ca.gov/OMR/reclamation/index.htm, or purchased from the California Geological Survey for $25.00
